Earth First!
The action is to stop a logging road from being constructed in Northern California. The pattern is for roads to be laid through the forests and then the forests are clearcut.
The ancient forests have taken hundreds, perhaps thousands, of years to reach the state of equilibrium and biological diversity they have. The logging companies and the consumer society that drives them have been short-sighted and self-centered. It takes long-term thinking and the understanding that we are a part of the larger ecological community to bring society to respect the trees and not cut them down for short term gains.
